Beliefs
What do Lutherans believe?
Lutherans believe in the Triune God. God created and loves all of creation -- the earth and the seas and all of the world’s inhabitants. We believe that God's Son, Jesus Christ, transforms lives through his death on the cross and his new life, and we trust that God's Spirit is active in the world.

We are part of God’s unfolding plan. When we gather for worship, we connect with believers everywhere. When we study the Bible or hear God’s word in worship, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story.

The convictions shared by Christians from many different traditions are expressed in statements of belief called creeds. These ecumenical creeds that Lutherans affirm and use in worship confess the faith of the church through the ages and around the world. At Saint Paul Lutheran we confess our faith with The Nicene Creed.

The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,* who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Reconciling in Christ

This area is being worked on as well, but for now, when a Lutheran community or organization indicates that it is Reconciling in Christ, that community is saying that it fully welcomes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people into the fullness of its life together. This welcome isn't conditional either; Reconciling in Christ communities affirm lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

Saint Paul has a Reconciling in Christ Ministry as well, composed of lgbt people, their friends, family, and allies. This Ministry is not only a fellowship group (fabulous parties), but they also frequently serve as speakers throughout the church, both locally and nationally. The people in this Ministry are always visible in Denver's Pride Parade, this year on June 28th.

The Saint Paul Welcome Statement on our home page was crafted by the Ministry.
